The Bear's Lionel Boyce Was Low-Key the Best-Dressed Man at the Emmys 2024

Before he was the mild-mannered Marcus on The Bear, Lionel Boyce came up as a member of Odd Future. And while the seminal LA hip-hop collective has remained on hiatus since 2015—despite the occasional one-off reunion—Boyce still let his OFWGKTA flag fly on the Emmys 2024 red carpet.

Boyce was dressed in a smart black zip jacket with roomy pleated trousers, a club collar shirt with a pastel pink tie, and a wool baseball cap, all from Odd Future founder Tyler, the Creator’s label Golf Le Fleur. (His shiny black tassel loafers and subtle brooch both felt like nods to Tyler’s impeccable style, too.) Always a sartorial giant, Tyler has had a particularly major 2024 in the fashion world. In February, he unveiled a landmark collaboration with his idol Pharrell’s red-hot Louis Vuitton menswear line; he followed that up last month by appearing on an instant-classic T-shirt from his beloved Supreme. Now, dressing his old friend Boyce to mark his first-ever Emmy nomination is the cherry on top.

The understated, workwear-inflected vibe of Boyce’s fit also appeared to pay tribute to an iconic fit from another OF star: Frank Ocean, who famously arrived to the 2019 Met Gala in a simple black Prada jacket over a shirt and tie. Ocean caused a minor stir at the time by flouting the event’s “Camp” theme, but his stripped-down kit has since earned a place on the mood boards of many a menswear enthusiast. Boyce’s similarly unorthodox look feels destined for a similar end.

Earlier this year, Boyce linked up with Earl Sweatshirt for a goofy new project called DJ Billy Jole, which seems like the closest thing we’ll get to a true Odd Future comeback for the foreseeable future. But we’ll happily settle for Boyce continuing to pay tribute to his pals via red carpet fits this easy-going and handsome.
