Terra collection rugs by Yabu Pushelberg for Warp & Weft

Dezeen Showroom: design studio Yabu Pushelberg took inspiration from aerial images of the Earth to create Terra, a collection of textured rugs for US brand Warp & Weft.

The Terra collection features five designs that combine patterns of repetitive lines, organic textures and different pile heights to evoke the look of fields, rolling hills or even stretches of suburbia.

Gale, Birch, Acre and Field II are the names of the five designs that comprise the collection – each is based on artworks by Yabu Pushelberg that Warp & Weft’s artisans translated into rugs using delicate hand-knotting techniques.

They are made of hand-dyed silk and wool, and Warp & Weft tried to give the pieces a vintage look with a soft texture.

“We tried to not miss the slightest details of the original artwork and from the knotting to the finishing, we selected distinctive techniques that would make those details possible,” said Warp & Weft founder Michael Mandapati. “The rugs are technically complex but read minimal and simple.”

Terra rugs come in standard sizes, but can also be ordered in custom dimensions and colours.
