With his band currently touring through Europe, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl spends most days in a sweat-soaked black T-shirt, jeans, and high-top Vans. But during a London pitstop ahead of the Foos’ upcoming show in Poland, Grohl took a page from David Beckham’s book and donned a rare suit and tie to watch some tennis from the Royal Box at Wimbledon.
En route to Centre Court on Tuesday alongside his wife Jordyn Blum, Grohl looked smart in a two-button navy pinstriped suit, gold printed necktie (my colleague Avidan Grossman complimented his four-in-hand knot, which remains the only acceptable way to tie a tie), Ray-Ban shades, and suede Dolce & Gabbana loafers. He tied his mid-length locks into a low bun, and donned a pair of round tortoiseshell eyeglasses to watch the rally.
Aside from a few Grammy ceremonies here and there, Grohl rarely dresses formally—but Wimbledon’s famously staunch dress code bends for no man, except maybe Woody Harrelson.
It’s unclear if the frontman is a big tennis fan, but Blum’s—who also dressed for the occasion in a collared blue Gucci dress and dark shades—forearm tattoo of crossed tennis rackets could give us a clue for the couple’s afternoon outing. Headed into the arena, Grohl skirted the BBC’s request for his Wimbledon predictions. “No clue,” Grohl told a reporter who’d asked the frontman whom he favored to win the tournament. “Couldn’t say.” Fair enough.
