It’s not news that Billie Eilish is a serious sneakerhead. The 23-year-old hitmaker is regularly spotted in a killer array of kicks, and tends to show a preference for Nikes and Jordans specifically. In a 2019 appearance on Sneaker Shopping, she dropped nearly $2,500 on three pairs of sneakers released as part of Virgil Abloh and Off-White’s ‘THE TEN’ collaboration with Nike, and she’s only further cemented her bona fides in the years since.
In a recent British Vogue profile, the young superstar was asked (by Greta Gerwig, no less), “Which shoes make you feel like you mean business?” Eilish kept her answer short and sweet, namedropping a silhouette even the snobbiest of gatekeepers couldn’t argue with. “Jordan 4s. Don’t know why. I really love the way I feel in ‘em.”
It’s a great pick, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The Air Jordan 4 is one of the best Air Jordans of all time—a classic Tinker Hatfield design characterized by panels of mesh and molded plastics. Originally released in 1989, Jordan wore the groundbreaking hoops shoes to hit his iconic series-winning buzzer beater over the Cavs, and they were cemented in pop culture history with a memorable cameo in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing.
Eilish’s love for the AJ4 is well-documented, too. She hit the stage for her headlining set at last year’s Coachella in the dependable ‘Fire Red’ colorway and brought them back out a few weeks later for a Met Gala afterparty. They’ve been steady in her onstage rotation, too, and she’s rocked everything from the women’s exclusive ‘Mushroom’ version to Travis Scott’s baby blue ‘Cactus Jack’ spin out in public over the years.
Eilish is a fairly quiet Nike and Jordan collaborator, having jammed on some signature colorways for the Air Force 1, Air Jordan 15, and the canvas rendition of the Air Jordan 1 over the years. She hasn’t quite reached Travis Scott levels of must-buy, but her eye for sneaker design is apparent in the work she’s done with the brands. Maybe the next time we see her play a set in Air Jordan 4s they’ll be a colorway with her logo on the side. Until then, we’re content to keep our eyes peeled for which pair she laces up next.
