Best Hermès Fragrances 2025: Tried and Tested by GQ Editors

  • Fragrance Family: Aromatic/aquatic/spicy
  • Concentration: Eau de Toilette
  • Motivation: Stimulating

Described by its makers as “olfactory poetry,” the Hermessence collection of premium, non-gender-specific scents, has a fragrance to suit every personality. My favorite from the line, Épice Marine, was actually born out of a meeting between the fragrance’s perfumer, the legendary Jean-Claude Ellena and renowned chef, Olivier Roellinger, and their discovered mutual appreciation of spices. inspired by the invigorating smell of the Brittany coast, it’s one part aromatic/aquatic, with a sea-salty edge and one part hot and spicy.

Stimulating and exhilarating, it opens with bracing sea notes, citrus, and cold spices like cardamom and cumin. Give it an hour or so to settle in and that tidal wave of freshness gives way to a warm breeze of vetiver, oakmoss, whiskey, hazelnut, sesame, and cinnamon; think spiced rum, waxed wooden floors, and smoked woods. Call me shallow but the bottle will also elevate any bathroom shelf; one worth having in your arsenal.
