Lignovations, a start-up developing sustainable ingredients from upcycled biomass lignin, has won the 1st place in the SEPAWA Innovation Award for its wood-based cosmetic ingredient, LignoGuard.
The innovative ingredient works as a strong SPF booster and antioxidant. It was design to help sunscreen manufacturers maintaining effective sun protection while reducing the quantity of UV filters in formulations.
LignoGuard helps manufacturers to reduce problematic UV filters in sun care products by increasing the SPF by up to 50%. The multifunctional ingredient is made from upcycled wood extract and also functions as a strong antioxidant. Additionally, it reduces the white cast typically seen in mineral sunscreens.
According to Lignovations, LignoGuard offers an eco-friendly solution for brands looking to improve both the performance and sustainability of their products.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition. It underscores the importance of sustainable ingredients like LignoGuard in today’s beauty market. Thanks to the antioxidant and protective properties of lignin, our products can be utilized not only in the beauty industry but also in packaging, coatings, and agriculture, contributing to a circular economy,” said Victor Tibo, Head of Business Development at Lignovations.
In addition to the SEPAWA Innovation Award, LignoGuard has received other major recognitions this year, including the in-cosmetics Global Green Ingredient Award and the BSB Innovation Award in the Natural Ingredients category.
